Timaru School of Music provides fun, affordable, after-school music lessons for children in Timaru. Students begin with Introduction to Music and can grow into group lessons and ensemble playing as their confidence develops. We offer learning across strings, brass, woodwind, guitar and ukulele in a supportive, community-focused environment.

Introduction to Music
A welcoming foundation class where students explore rhythm, instruments and basic musical skills.
(Some older or experienced students may move directly into group lessons.)
Group Instrument Lessons
Students begin learning one chosen instrument in small groups and build their skills throughout the year.
(Students who complete Introduction to Music receive priority placement.)
Ensemble Playing
As students grow in confidence, they may be invited to join an ensemble alongside their group lesson, at no extra cost.
(Guitar students continue developing ensemble-style skills within their group lessons.)

Timaru School of Music offers short, Ministry-funded group lessons designed primarily for primary school–aged children who don’t already receive itinerant lessons through their high school. Lessons are held after school at Waimataitai School in Timaru.
